DENR EMB-NCR Awards the Recognition of Selected Barangays Under “Adopt an Estero Water Body Program and the Battle for Manila Bay Project in the World Environmental Health Day Celebration
MANILA, Philippines – The Environmental Management Bureau-National Capital Region (EMB-NCR) awards the Plaque of Recognition to selected barangays under the “Adopt-an -Estero/Waterbody Program” and the “Battle for Manila Bay Project” last September 26, 2019 at the H2O Hotel, Manila in line with the celebration of the World Environmental Health Day.
The recognition of selected barangays from the National Capital Region is through their full support in the continuous rehabilitation of our Philippine waters particularly the Manila Bay and its tributaries. “Adopt an Estero Program” is a flagship program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in line with the “Battle for Manila Bay Project” under the stewardship of DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu. It was implemented in response to the Writ of Continuing Mandamus issued by the Supreme Court for Agencies led by the DENR to clean up, rehabilitation and preservation Manila Bay, particularly the esteros and waterways that empty into it.
The awards were presented by EMB Regional Director, Engr. Cesar Siador and EMB Climate Change Division Chief, Albert Magalang to the six (6) barangays; Barangay Lingunan, Valenzuela City, for adopting Lingunan Creek, Barangay Tambo, Parañaque for adopting Redemptorist Channel, Barangay Addition Hills and Barangay Pleasant Hills, Mandaluyong City for adopting a portion of Maytunas Creek, Barangay 412, Sampaloc, Manila for adopting Estero de San Miguel, and Barangay Sto. Niño, Parañaque for adopting Libjo Creek.
