MANILA, Philippines – Environmental Management Bureau National Capital Region Regional Director Atty. Michael Drake P. Matias, EMED OIC Chief Engr. Jean Borromeo, and Ambient Water Unit conducted ocular inspection at Manila Bay water quality sampling sites and Sewage Treatment Plant on Thursday, October 7, while strictly observing COVID-19 Minimum Health and Safety Protocols (MHSP).
During the inspection, the officers walk through the 1.5 km sampling station sites from the Manila Bay Bathing Area/ Baywalk to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) beside Manila Yacht Club where they gathered water samples to be tested for fecal coliform and other parameters.
The inspection is in line with the ongoing Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program. The Manila Yacht Club STP treats the intercepted wastewater from the three (3) major drainage outfalls along Roxas Boulevard Baywalk namely: Faura, Remedios, and Abad, and can treat up to 500,000 liters of wastewater per day, reducing the amount of untreated water discharging into Manila Bay.
