“The impact of mercury should not be taken for granted.  Aside from its toxic effects to humans, mercury also poses a great threat to the environment and the ecosystem as it can enter the environment through emissions to the air or releases to land and water.” This is an excerpt of the short message sent by Atty. Domingo M. Clemente, Jr., the Regional Director of EMBNCR during the seminar on Mercury.

The crowd of 290 heads mostly Science Supervisors and Teachers, Dental Schools and Dentists and some LGUs in NCR swarmed inside the auditorium of Diliman Preparatory School on March 6, 2019.


The speakers were most applauded with their expertise on the topics they tackled. Engr. Teddy Monroy, the consultant of Minamata Initial Assessment (MIA) Project enlightened the participants on the objective of the Project while Mr. Geri Geronimo Sañes, the Chief, Chemicals Division EMB Central Office shed light on the efforts of the government in monitoring and controlling the importation and use of Mercury in the country. Dr. Lilian Ebuen, DMD and the only Filipino accredited member of International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, USA, who advocates for a free-mercury in dentistry presented the risk of Mercury in human body. To end her presentation Dr. Ebuen strongly professed the tagline, “Healthy Teeth, Healthy Body, No Mercury.”

Present in the said seminar was the Regional Science Supervisor of Dep. Ed. Ms. Micah Pacheco and the Principal of Diliman Preparatory School Ms. Emelita T. Bernabe together with Ms. Jenn Valdez, the Marketing Manager of the school who collaborated for the successful organization of the seminar in their school.
