METRO MANILA, Philippines – EMB National Capital Region through its Ambient Water Unit in partnership with Philippine Coast Guard and Parañaque City Local Government Unit recently conducted the MOA Signing for the Installation of Water Quality Monitoring Equipment (WQME) at Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat Area (LPPCHEA) via Zoom Meeting App on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.
Parañaque City Mayor, Hon. Edwin L. Olivarez, represented by City Environment and Natural Resources Office Chief, Bernardo N. Amurao, conveyed his welcome and opening remarks to those present at the said event.
Philippine Coast Guard – Coast Guard District National Capital Region – Central Luzon (PCG-CGDNCR-CL), Commodore Charlie Q. Rances and Philippine Coast Guard – Maritime Safety Services Command, Rear Admiral Artemio M. Abu delivered their messages of commitment to participate and contribute to the rehabilitation of Manila Bay and to watch over the water quality management equipment (WQME) while monitoring water quality at the area.
DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu, represented by Undersecretary for Field Operations and Environment, Atty. Juan Miguel T. Cuna conveyed his keynote address and EMB-NCR Regional Director presented the updates on WQME before the MOA signing proper. DENR-NCR Regional Executive Director Jacqueline A. Caancan was also present and gave her closing remarks.
The installation of Water Quality Monitoring Equipment will help in the monitoring of water quality at LPPCHEA without the need for actual physical water sampling or human intervention while transmitting accurate real-time monitoring data to the office. The said equipment is also useful in reducing the risk of exposure while doing water sampling, as we live with the reality and challenges of COVID-19.
