The Adopt-an-Estero Waterbody Program is being implemented to restore the quality of creeks through the partnership of the EMB-NCR with its donor partners. Said program is a good demonstration of how the government and other sectors work hand in hand for the protection and restoration of the environment. Since the implementation of the program in 2010, the number of adopted creeks continues to grow.
On January 27, 2016, additional donor partners expressed their commitment to participate in the said program. EMB-NCR’s new donor partners are represented by Skyway O&M Corporation, ASEANA, Manila Ocean Park, and Claro M. Recto High School. To formalize the expression of their commitments, a signing of Memorandum of Agreement was conducted together with the Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Health, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Laguna Lake Development Authority, Department of Interior and Local Government, and the Department of Science and Technology, as well as the Local Government Units of Parañaque, Manila, and Muntinlupa.
Currently, a total of 51 esteros have already been adopted by the donor partners of EMB-NCR. The efforts of the agency to work with the other sectors of the community, especially in environmental protection, are all instrumental in fulfilling stakeholder engagement.
