Since the Adopt-an-Estero Program was launched in the year 2010, the EMB-NCR has been committed its efforts in encouraging the participation of all sectors in the improvement of Metro Manila waterways. It is envisioned that through the program, donor partners, as well as the Local Government Units, the barangays, and other community members will work with one another in the goal of improving the state of the region’s rivers through the conduct of continuous and intensive clean-up activities in esteros.
On June 6, 2018, the new donor partners signed the Memorandum of Agreement with the DENR-EMB-NCR, as well as other National Government Agencies namely Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Interior and Local Government and Metro Manila Development Authority.
Additional three (3) esteros were adopted namely, Mariblo Creek, portion of Diliman Creek, and Ermitanyo Creek. Said creeks were adopted by Toyota North EDSA, Quezon City Haribon Lions Club, and Goldilocks Bakeshop, Inc. and JAECAS Specialty Food Products Inc., respectively.
Also present during the MOA signing were LGUs of Quezon City, San Juan City and Mandaluyong City. The barangays traversed by said creeks were also represented namely, Barangay Bungad (for Mariblo Creek), Barangays Obrero, Kristong Hari and Kamuning (for portion of Diliman Creek), and Barangays Little Baguio, Addition Hills, and Wack Wack (for Ermitanyo Creek).
