In celebration of Philippine Environment Month, the EMB-NCR, together with its partner Local Government Units and establishments from the private sector conducted an orchestrated clean-up activity in selected esteros in Metro Manila. Said activity, which was held last June 24, 2017 was also participated in by the Department of Public Works and Highways and Metro Manila Development Authority.
Ten (10) esteros were selected as sites for the said clean-up, namely Diliman Creek (T. Morato Site), Diliman Creek (Nepa Q. Mart/Ramon Magsaysay Site), Pasong Tamo Creek in Quezon City; Ilugin Creek and Pineda Creek in Pasig; and Beata Creek, Valencia Creek, Estero Fort San Antonio De Abad and Maytubig, Estero De Sta. Clara, and Estero Dela Reina in Manila. A total of 611 participants were present and deployed in the aforementioned areas, wherein 39,654 kilograms of garbage were collected.
Over the years, the EMB-NCR has committed itself to leading the various sectors in improving the quality of our rivers by cleaning the esteros within the region. As the agency is also proactive in strengthening the foundation of community awareness through Environmental Education, Information Education Communication materials were also distributed during the activity.
