During the April 8, 2016 airing of Tinig ng Kalikasan co-anchored by Ms. Nadine Valderrama of EMB-NCR, this office joined the global community in celebrating Earth Day on April 22. The event aims to raise awareness on the current environmental issues and the possible solutions that communities may adopt.
To expound on the upcoming Earth Day celebration and the importance of the youth’s cooperation in all undertakings set to address the environmental issues we are currently facing, the guests of the said airing were Ms. Mea Noble of Earth Day Network Philippines Inc., and Ms. Magnolia Danganan, Youth Desk Officer of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
It was discussed that this year’s global theme is “Trees for the Earth”, which connects to our commitment to contribute to the completion of planting 7.8 billion trees by the year 2020 as means to sequester the increasing carbon emissions that contributes to global warming and climate change.
Ms. Noble emphasized that “we must not only celebrate Earth Day once a year, but, we should realize that everyday is Earth Day”, therefore, it should not be taken for granted. This is the main reason why the youth needs to recognize how their support to advocacies such as this creates valuable impact to the community. Their contributions create the necessary difference and change that the environment needs.
Also in line with the upcoming elections, the national theme of Earth Day is, “Step up and Deliver, Green Environment Gawing Forever” which aims to challenge our leaders to lead the levelling up of efforts toward environmental sustainable development.
