The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, through the Environmental Management Bureau – National Capital Region, once again leads the nation take the challenge of raising public awareness on the current environmental issues that the Philippines is faced with. As its concrete step toward the goal of intensifying the degree of awareness, forge partnerships, and take proactive actions towards environmental protection and conservation, the 2nd National Integrated Waste Management Summit and Exhibit has been launched with the theme “ Fostering Shared Responsibility in Integrated Waste Management”. This will be EMB-NCR’s highpoint as it celebrates the Philippine Environment Month in June.
It will be an interesting one as exhibits will showcase the innovations and strategies that are being utilized by companies not only to comply with but to continuously improve on the standards set by the DENR. Sharing of best practices will also be encouraged as we aim to create partnerships and linkages that will bridge the gap among various sectors. New learnings will involve discussions on Environmental Education, Ecological Solid Waste Management, Air Quality, Water and Wastewater Management, Climate Change, among others.
As part of its goal to integrate new ways of promoting strategic public environmental awareness, the EMB-NCR will lead in ensuring that the event is environmentally conscious and sustainable through the reduction of paper usage, and through patrolling proper waste segregation among participants. This will be the first time that the EMB-NCR will introduce the conduct of environmental events guided by ISO 20121 (Event Sustainability Management Systems).
To jumpstart the event, a soft-launch of the event was held among private institutions, industries and private sector last May 24, 2016 at the EMB-NCR Conference Room. It sets the stage in defining significant partnerships towards an inclusive and sustainable environment for all.. They were encouraged to put forward their company’s commitment in providing solutions for our environmental concerns, while, commending them for the environmental initiatives they currently implement in their respective establishments.
Messages from the Assistant Secretary and Concurrent EMB Director Juna Miguel Cuna, EMB-NCR Regional Director Vizminda Osorio, Soild Waste Management Division Chief, Engr. Eligio Ildefonso all emphasized that partnerships are a vital component in the success of all our undertakings.
