EMB National Capital Region in collaboration with CARE ACCORD and Partners for Resilience Project recently conducted a webinar entitled “COVID-19 and the Environment: A Discussion on Environmental Degradation and its Connection to the Pandemic” last Wednesday, October 21 as part of its planning workshop held last Friday, October 16, 2020.
EMB-NCR Regional Director expressed his utmost gratitude to the partners and participants of the said event. During his opening remarks, he gave emphasis on the emerging problem on waste pollution especially in these times of the pandemic which will be tackled as the main topic on the webinar.
UP Manila’s Associate Dean for Research and Public Service Professor of Microbiology , Dr. Marilen Parungao-Balolong discussed how wastewater-based monitoring can be a reliable tool for surveillance, detection, risk management of possible outbreaks and diseases particularly for COVID-19.
Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health’s Lead Environmental Health Specialist Center for Research and Innovation, Dr. Geminn Louis Apostol focused his discussion on the impacts of the emerging pollution from hazardous and solid waste on the environment especially during COVID-19 pandemic.
CENRO Malabon City Government’s Sr. Environmental Management Specialist, Ms. Elizabeth Gutierrez and DENR EMB-NCR’s OIC for Environmental Monitoring and Enforcement Division, Engr. Jean Borromeo also shared their insights and reaction on the said topic.
