World Water Day Celebration “Lakbay Manila Bay” in collaboration with DENR-NCR

The global community celebrates World Water Day every month of March. This event is also being celebrated in the Philippines—a country that heavily relies on its water resources. Being at the forefront of the implementation of Republic Act 9275, otherwise known as the Philippine Clean Water Act, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) was also one with the global community in the celebration of the event.

The Environmental Management Bureau-NCR, in collaboration with the DENR-NCR, conducted the “Lakbay Manila Bay”, an educational tour which aimed to showcase sites in the metro that have a potential for ecotourism. The tour has been integrated in the regular activities of the EMB-NCR to strengthen the understanding of participants on environmental management.

What was special about the tour was that the participants were able to visit the Philippine Permaculture Association (PPA) headquarters which is also an ecohouse that is inspired by permaculture design. As mentioned by the members of the PPA, “permaculture” is defined as a mixture of the natural and man-made design in structures. Said design focuses on how the components of a structure connect with one another. Such is the case of the sustainable water system, compost comfort room (aka dry CR), and the solar panels that are visible in the area.

The event, which was held on March 15, was graced by the participation of Youth Desk Officers of the different bureaus of the DENR. The event was crucial in strengthening the involvement of the Youth Desk Officers in the goal of further inculcating environmental consciousness in the country’s youth.
