QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Environmental Management Bureau – National Capital Region through Environmental Education and Information Unit (EEIU) conducted a webinar entitled “Water and Women: The Linkages,” on Monday, March 21, 2022, via Zoom meeting application, in celebration of World Water Day, Philippine Water Week, and as part of the office’s support to National Women’s Month.

In his opening remarks, Regional Director Atty. Michael Drake P. Matias reminded the participants of the importance of groundwater and the unprecedented changes it may be brought if groundwater aquifers continue to deteriorate due to climate change, pollution, and over-exploitation. He also encouraged everyone to have the initiative in the protection and proper utilization of groundwater and help achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for All by 2030.

Speakers of the said webinar are EMB-NCR Environmental Enforcement Division – Ambient Water Unit (EMED – AWU) Senior Environmental Management Specialist, Ms. Josephine Q. Natividad who discussed “RA 9275 and EMB-NCR Initiatives in Water Quality Management,” National Water Resources Board (NWRB) Water Resources Assessment Section, Engr. III Maria Erlinda P. Pajarito, who shared her insights on the topic “Sustainable Water for Urban Environment,” and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Climate Change Service OIC Director and DENR Gender and Development Office concurrent Director, Ms. Elenida DR. Basug who discussed on “Climate Change, Water, and the Role of Women in the Environment.”

The online event was attended by various individuals from different organizations, schools, Local Government Units of Metro Manila, National Government Offices, and private companies.
