QUEZON CITY, Philippines – Environmental Management Bureau – National Capital Region conducted a short program of Intensified Compliance Monitoring/Saturation Drive on Monday, March 14, 2022, at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Central Office, Visayas Avenue, Diliman Quezon City.

EMB Central Office and Regional Offices, Laguna Lake Development Authority, DENR-National Capital Region, and Metropolitan Environmental Offices (MEOs) representatives were present in the said program.

DENR Undersecretary of Field Operations Atty. Juan Miguel T. Cuna conveys his message regarding the importance of saturation, he also added that Manila Bay has improved a lot, in terms of aesthetics/physical appearance and even the water quality. However, still not enough to say that we have already restored the water quality to SB level (Recreational Water Class 1 for areas regularly used by the public for bathing swimming, skin diving, etc.).

Before ending the program, the inspectors received their Mission Order and designated area of jurisdiction per Metropolitan Environmental Office.

East MEO under Quezon City, Marikina City, and Pasig City, while the EMB Regions involved are EMB IV-A, IV-B, EMB V, EMB-VI, EMB-NCR, LLDA and East MEO personnel.

West MEO under Makati, San Juan City, Mandaluyong City, Pasay City, and Manila City, EMB Regions involved are EMB-VII, EMB-VIII, EMB-IX, EMB-NCR, LLDA and West MEO personnel.

North MEO under Caloocan City, Navotas City, Malabon City, and Valenzuela City, EMB Regions involved are EMB-CAR, EMB-I, EMB-II, EMB-III, EMB-NCR, and North MEO personnel

South MEO under Taguig City, Muntinlupa City, Parañaque City, Las Piñas City and Municipality of Pateros, EMB Regions involved are EMB-X, EMB-XI, EMB-XII, EMB -XIII, EMB-NCR and South MEO personnel.

The monitoring will focus on the improvement of the water quality of Manila Bay in accordance with the Writ of Continuing Mandamus of the Supreme Court. The implementation will track the untreated wastewater and sewage discharge of establishments to Manila Bay. It aims to ensure establishments’ compliance with Republic Act (RA) 9275 or the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004.
